
Here are the features your smart TVs will get in 2023 with the announced Android 13 TV platform
Google finally launched Android TV for devices soon. The latest version of Android TV will probably take some time before you see it on your smart TV, as the company wants to make sure that developers are ready to optimize their apps for the new version.
The latest version of Android 13 for TV is currently available. According to the company, there are other changes added to Android 13 that improve the user experience and increase the compatibility of TV devices. Performance and quality improvements, as well as continued evolution in user interaction with Android TV, are some of the highlights of this release.

For now, Android 13 TV is available to developers, allowing them to create apps and other user interfaces. Therefore, most smart TVs using Android 12 should receive the upgrade next year, i.e. 2023.
With the new Android 13 for TV, apps will be able to identify routed devices and compatible formats using pre-audio tracks before creating an audio track.

On approved HDMI source devices, the user controls the preferred resolution and refresh rate. Power management improvements will be made for low power standby.
System privacy controls will take hardware mute settings into account. Remote control user controls for accessing the assistant microphone will also be updated. Default setting for all applications to enable audio descriptions.

The new Keyboard Layouts API allows you to choose from different language layouts for external keyboards. There will be improved language selection for HDMI source devices as well as better handling of HDMI status changes for HDMI source devices.

If you have the ADT-3 Developer Kit, install the system image by following the instructions in this section. Alternatively, you can try out some of the new UI features, including audio routing, keyboard layout, and HDMI status changes using the Android TV emulator.
Install system images manually
To install Android 13, follow these steps:
- Use the ADT-3 Developer Kit for Google TV. The system image provided is for ADT-3 development devices only.
- Download the system image listed on this page.
- Back up your device data if necessary.
- Flash the image to the ADT-3. Manually flashing the device gives you precise control over the testing environment and can be done using command line tools.
